Understanding the collector market for the Ghia 1500 GT: auction history, price trends, and what to look for when buying.
For years, the Ghia 1500 GT was one of the best-kept secrets in the Italian classic car world. While more famous names commanded six and seven-figure prices at auction, the Ghia 1500 GT could be acquired for relatively modest sums — a reflection more of its obscurity than its quality.
That picture has been changing. As collectors increasingly look beyond the obvious marquees and discover the charm, rarity, and craftsmanship of the Ghia 1500 GT, values have risen significantly. The car is now recognized as a genuine piece of Italian automotive artistry, with the added appeal of extreme rarity — fewer than 100 examples are believed to survive worldwide.

If you're considering purchasing a Ghia 1500 GT, here are the key areas to inspect and factors to consider:
The hand-formed steel body is the car's most valuable and hardest-to-replace component. Check carefully for rust (especially sills, floor pans, wheel arches, and around the windshield), previous accident damage, and the quality of any previous bodywork. Panel fit should be good — these were coachbuilt cars.
The Fiat 1500 mechanicals are robust and most parts are still available. Check the engine for oil leaks, blue smoke, and smooth running. The gearbox should shift cleanly. These are not complex cars mechanically, and a competent Fiat specialist can address most issues.
Original interior parts and trim pieces are very difficult to source. A car with a complete, original interior — even if worn — is worth significantly more than one with missing or incorrect parts. Pay special attention to the dashboard, instruments, and chrome trim.
As with all collector cars, documentation adds significant value. Original registration documents, service history, previous ownership records, and period photographs all contribute to establishing the car's provenance and history.
